From Fixed Stars to Sidereal Astronomy

A talk by Professor Giuseppe Longo, Department of Physical Sciences, University Federico II

The talk describes some highlights of the rather complex history which led from the Aristotelic idea of a celestial sphere of "fixed stars" to the 3-dimensional universe. This talk is the first in a series on the history of sidereal astronomy. (The next talks in the series will be in the Fall Semester, 2010.)
